What salary gets you into your dream suburb?

by Kate Watt, Marketing Manager 5 May 2017

We love a good property calculator and here’s one we’ve been having some fun with lately.

It’s the Salary vs. Suburb calculator on finder.com.au.

How much do you need to earn to live in your dream location? That is the question this calculator answers by determining the household income needed to stay below the mortgage stress level.

Here in Aspley you need a combined household income of $108,500 assuming a loan size of $468,000 against a property with a median house price of $520,000.

We notice in the fine print the loan repayments are based on the variable home loan interest rate as at March 2015, so it’s not exactly current.

Our suggestion: have some fun with it but don’t fire your mortgage broker just yet!

Cashed up? Check out what salary you need to earn to repay your mortgage in these high end locations across Australia.

  • Vaucluse, Sydney: $709.434.18
  • Toorak, Melbourne: $627,014.62
  • New Farm, Brisbane: $260,821.39

Looking a little closer to home? Check out the salary you’ll need to become a local in north Brissie.
