#5 Homeschool hacks to keep you sane

Got the kids at home? Got yourself at home? Going insane trying juggle Zoom meetings with your boss and times tables with your little learner?

You’re not alone. And let’s be honest, there is no magic fix to juggling schooling and working from home when even the likes of Mary Poppins is probably grounded due to travel restrictions.
So these weeks and months are about doing your best – not doing it perfectly. And here are a few tips, inspired by Marie Claire, to get your household as ship shape as it can be while you’re schooling the kiddies lockdown style.

1. Create separate learning spaces. If you’re lucky enough to have a spare room, congratulations, get those books off the dinner table and turn that empty space into a classroom. For those that don’t have a spare room in your back pocket – and that’s probably most of you – it’s just about moving the kids to where they’ll learn best. Some classrooms these days even let kids lie on the floor, so get creative.

2. Maintain a structure. You’re at home now, not school, so there is no bell for little lunch and big lunch, but your budding scholars will probably respond better to some kind of routine. Chunk up the day into a couple of learning blocks and break it up with meals or playtime in between.

3. Prioritise self-care for the teacher. The teacher in this case is you! Do whatever it takes to carve out some quiet time for yourself to destress in whatever way works for you: a walk, a moment of mindful meditation or a 5 minute phone call, wine in hand, to your BFF at the end of a tough day.
