Market Update: Brissie struts into global top #10 city list

by Richard Parker, Sales Manager 15 June 2021

Roll out the red carpet, Brissie has swaggered into international ranks once again, taking out 10th place in the annual ranking of the world’s most liveable cities.

We know we’ve got it made here in our subtropical slice of the southern hemisphere. But what are the judges looking for when it comes to an international sweet spot?

The Economist Intelligence Unit considers things like safety and political stability as well as access to healthcare and education. Amenity and affordability, as well as climate also get a look in, reports Travel+Leisure.

This year’s ratings are the first since the pandemic, so Australia and New Zealand cities dominate the top 10 given our countries’ relative success in containing the virus.

From a property perspective, we’re a little miffed to see Auckland took out the top spot. It has crazy high house prices compared to Brissie’s affordability… not to mention the weather.

Japanophiles amongst you will be pleased to see Tokyo and Osaka also got a look in, whereas Zurich and Geneva were the only European cities to make the cut. Vienna, which previously took out the title two years’ running, fell out of the top 10 this year.

Check out the full list below:

  1. Auckland, New Zealand
  2. Osaka, Japan
  3. Adelaide, Australia
  4. Wellington, New Zealand
  5. Tokyo, Japan
  6. Perth, Australia
  7. Zurich, Switzerland
  8. Geneva, Switzerland and Melbourne, Australia
  9. No ninth place, due to an equal eighth place.
  10. Brisbane, Australia
