Brighter Buying

Should you be eyeing off a bridesmaid suburb?

Price growth might be slowing but with recent interest rate rises, buyers might find they can’t quite stretch their borrowing capacity to their dream suburb.

So do you hold out hope for a fully renovated love match in Windsor? Or should you start to swipe right on the post war charmers with potential in Stafford?

The smart money says it’s worth taking a closer look at suburbs that surround the blue chips but come with a cheaper price tag.

“Bridesmaid suburbs are adjacent to higher-profile neighbouring suburbs,” Domain reports. “They cost less to buy into but share many similarities to the first-pick suburb next door, including access to public transport routes, schools and major shopping hubs.”

A well-located bridesmaid suburb can continue to shine long after the honeymoon is over.

As rising interest rates push buyers out of the top-tier suburbs, the popularity of the bridesmaid suburbs will continue to grow.

This means the ‘ripple effect’ of price growth could turn into a wave of good fortune for the astute buyer.

Brisbane’s middle ring suburbs offer some great value buying for those in the bridesmaid market. Check out the suburbs surrounding the bustling amenity of Chermside.

You’ll also get a growing spread of urban amenity with a middle ring price tag in suburbs like Chermside West and Stafford.

Further out, stick to the convenience of the train line with a suburb like Zillmere, which offers proximity to schools, shops and sporting grounds – and it’s a short drive for weekend fish and chips by they bay without the million-dollar bayside price tag.
