Brighter Buying

#2 Affordable Brissie burbs that may surprise you

by Kate Watt, Marketing Manager 2 December 2021

As prices have gone gangbusters this year, many first-time buyers have watched in horror as the gap widens between their Ascot aspirations and their Boondall budget.

Buying your first home will almost always involve a compromise, but you may not have to give up as much as you think.

Keeping an open mind and a tight budget will get you into a house or unit quicker than you think. And you’ll be happy living there too.

The Courier-Mail has recently featured six suburbs with low price tags and high amenity, meaning your lifestyle sacrifices might not be as great as you think.

Check out our pick of northside suburbs you may not have considered for a house or a unit.

McDowall, units:

Close to our neighbourhood, McDowall is not known as a super affordable ‘burb. But if you want the McDowall mansion postcode, without the mansion – once the epitome of 80s and 90s grandeur – you can snag a unit for just over $400,000. This will place you less than 10km to the city centre and close to amenities like schools, shops, hospitals and nature reserves.

Brendale, houses:

For house hunters on the north side Bracken Ridge has long been a hip pocket safe haven. It’s family friend and budget friendly, with easy access to loads of schools, parks, shops, public transport and major arterials. It’s also a stone’s throw to the bayside for your weekend fish and chips.

So if you’ve been on the house hunt for a while, perhaps take a Sunday drive north and check out some suburbs that might surprise you.
