#5 Outdoor Christmas light hacks

by Kate Watt, Marketing Manager 24 November 2022

In a few weeks’ time the best and brightest of Brisbane’s Christmas light winners will be revealed in the 2022 KISSmas Lights Competition.

The what competition? It used to be the 4KQ Christmas Lights competition but there’s been a few shake ups in Brissie radio this year and now KIIS 97.3 is flying the Christmas lights flag.

If you’re wanting to add some more sparkle to your Christmas lights display this year, here are a few tips to fire up the festive factor.

  1. Go solar. Forget extension cords and a big electricity bill. Opt for solar lights which charge during the day and turn on when the sun goes down.
  2. Create a Christmas tree. You don’t need a properly trimmed pine tree when you can string a set of rope lights into a pyramid and convert any shrub-by-day into a Christmas tree at night.
  3. Focus for impact. Don’t spread your lights too thin. If your lighting stocks are limited, choose one aspect of your yard – like a garden bed or feature tree – to decorate for impact.
  4. Get creative with colour. Why stick to red, green and white when Christmas lights come in all shapes and colours. Choose a colour theme that you love.
  5. Make it fun! If you have kids or kids-at-heart visiting your home, turn your lighting display into a game with hidden treats, winding pathways and festive scenes.
