Brighter And some

Moving house checklist

by Kate Watt, Marketing Manager 6 September 2018

Moving house can be one of the most stressful life events – where did all this stuff come from? Who’s going to clean up? Do we really need this many coffee mugs?

But there are a few things you can do to make sure it all goes smoothly. Firstly, declutter! This is the perfect time to finally go through all those cupboards and drawers and clear out everything you don’t need. What to do with all the stuff you’re getting rid of? Sell it, donate it or bin it.

Make sure you have plenty of boxes, paper and bubble wrap for packing. Label all your boxes and identify them by room.

Arrange for your electricity, water, gas, phone and internet connections to be in place at your new home. And don’t forget to get your mail redirected too. Most of these details can be taken care of online.

What to do on moving day:

  • Pack a ‘survival kit’ with toiletries, tea, coffee, milk, first aid items and tea towels so you can have the essentials at your new home straight away
  • Ensure pets are safely secured
  • Collect your house keys
  • Do a final check of every room, every cupboard and storage areas
  • Switch off the lights and lock up.
