Queensland’s top #5 testaments to love

by Kate Watt, Marketing Manager 11 February 2016

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching we thought we’d pay homage to the unique ways our great state tries – and sometimes fails – to say ‘I love you’.

Here’s our top #5 favourite tacky and tasteful romantic statements.

Les Bubbles Bath House

This Parisian steakhouse in Fortitude Valley is forged in the very same building that housed the illegal casino, bath house and brothel at the centre of the Fitzgerald Inquiry. Apparently it’s all above board these days, though the website does raise an eyebrow when it says: “Ask for a drink anytime shy of 3am and your request will be serviced in exactly the manner you desire.”

Heart Reef

Who was Mother Nature dreaming of when she created this iconic heart-shaped coral in our Great Barrier Reef? With good reason, this has been the site of many romantic proposals.

Brisbane’s Eiffel Tower

Milton’s La Dolce Vita Ristorante is probably one of the few Italian restaurants anywhere in the world to mark its street presence with a French icon. Don’t overthink it – just order another glass of red and enjoy it.

Our endangered ‘love locks’

Try as they might to establish a romantic tradition, lovers clasping padlocks to bridges and fences across the state seem thwarted by local councils who fear these ‘love locks’ damage the structures. But love birds in Brisbane, Toowoomba and the Gold Coast shouldn’t feel singled out – even Paris has removed locks from its iconic Seine River bridges.

XXXX Brewery

Queenslanders have long had a love affair with beer and this X-rated sign never fails to swell the chest of many a thirsty man and woman. You could even take your Valentine on a Milton brewery tour. Classy and thirst quenching.
