Brighter Buying

Best burbs for first home buyers

by Karleen Jentz, Copywriter 22 February 2018

2018 is shaping up to be the year of the first home buyer with more first timers in the national market than we’ve seen in five years.

These encouraging figures, from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, prompted Domain to ask which suburbs were the best picks for home buying newbies?

Considerations included proximity to the city and median house prices not too far over the $500,000 mark.

With two north side faves in the mix, we’ve think they’ve done a reasonably good job. Here’s what they tipped:

  • Geebung – close to us here in Aspley and also close to Chermside where you’ll find the ever growing and ever impressive Westfield shopping centre. You’ve also got good road and rail links to the city, airport and the Gateway. Solid post war homes will be appeal to the renovators amongst you. If your budget can stretch a little further you might pick up a new build.
  • Keperra – this time-honoured favourite for first home buyers maintains its appeal with easy access to shops, cafes and a train link to the city. You’ll find post war and older brick homes provide affordable options. Golfers will appreciate the Keperra Golf Club too.
  • Tingalpa – just 10km east of the city this suburb is a good pick for those who want a south side address with bayside proximity. A mix of post war and chamferboard homes make this an accessible entry level suburb for first timers.
