Brighter Selling

Farmer Joe days over for Hockey

by Karleen Jentz, Copywriter 8 July 2015

Federal Treasurer Joe Hockey has put his North Queensland farm on the market for more than double what he paid for it in 2003.

Hockey is asking $1.55 million for the 90-hectare Malanda property. At that price he would pocket a tidy profit given he bought it for $625,000. Perhaps he is good with numbers after all.

But the quick sale Hockey was reportedly seeking was yet to eventuate as at late June, according to Domain. Hockey has been on the nose with first home buyers since making the notorious comment to “get a good job” if you want to break into the scorching hot Sydney and Melbourne housing markets.

While it may not be advice everyone wants to hear, it seems to have worked well for Hockey who has an impressive property portfolio himself.

Amongst his assets is a Sydney home worth an estimated $5.4 million and a Canberra house his dad – a former real estate agent – helped him secure for land value in 1997. Read the full details in the Sydney Morning Herald.
