New DIY trend: create your own suburb

by Karleen Jentz, Copywriter 25 August 2017

The residents of Kalinga did it now the Stones Corner crew are chancing their luck and petitioning the Queensland Government to turn their locale into a fully fledged suburb.

Iconic Stones Corner enjoyed standalone suburb status before its amalgamation with Greenslopes several decades ago.

But its unique history and popularity as a retail and dining hot spot have ensured it retained its own identity…unlike the little known suburb of Kalinga which you may not know but can learn about here.

Stones Corner got its name from pioneer James Stone who, amongst other things brought us James Stone Ginger Beer, which is still being brewed today.

Its modern day residents are now awaiting government consideration of their request for it to be officially reinstated, reports The Courier-Mail.

So what would this move do for houses prices? In the case of Kalinga demand was already high given its proximity to the CBD and blue chip suburbs like Clayfield. But its lack of profile means buyers don’t know to search for it online, so agents need to tailor online marketing strategies to ensure it’s returned in searches for neighbouring suburbs.

Stones Corner has a high profile already so may not have this hurdle to overcome. It’s first hurdle however will be to get standalone suburb status granted. Watch this space.
