Blacklist: Brissie’s most notorious car and home theft suburbs

by Kate Watt, Marketing Manager 6 February 2020

Suburbs with the highest insurance claims for home break-ins and car thefts over the past four years were almost all on the south side, new data has revealed.

Forest Lake residents sadly top the list for home thefts (79 claims) and car thefts (27 claims), one of Queensland’s largest insurers, RACQ, has told Brisbane Times.
The news gets worse, with the RACQ seeing a “steady rise” in car theft claims in Queensland between 2016 and 2019.
Thankfully, home theft claims had declined over the same period.
Sunnybank Hills also featured in the top five for both car and home thefts.
In good news for north-siders the lists were dominated by south-side suburbs, with Bracken Ridge the only northern suburb to crack the top five for car theft.
Taking a Queensland-wide view, the Gold Coast claims the dubious honour of the highest number of car and home theft insurance claims, accounting for just over 25 per cent of claims. This is followed by Logan at 23 per cent, Moreton Bay at 19 per cent and Brisbane South at just over 18 per cent.
You’ll note Brisbane North didn’t even rate a mention!
